Business communication

business communication is nothing new but something special because it is a specialised branch of general communication. process, types, methods etc. are the same with those of general communication but the only difference lies in their application to the situation. business deals with a wide range of economic activities and therefore it produces and sells for earning profit and here we can defin business communication as a flow of information accuring withiin the business environment with a specific formal motive.

In a broad sense, business communication can be defined as "the process of expressing any type of notice, instruction, reques, recommendation, perception, and the liking to a person or a number of persons within the organization or outside the organization, with view to inform them of any business data, decision instructions, objectives etc and expecting feedback from the receivers to secure action by the reciver.

so know we can define business communication as
1. a specialised branch of communication
2. it deals with internal and external business environment and generally with formal attitude.
3. it is focused to secure some action by receiver.
4. simple, concise and to the point language is used to draw attention, developing interest and inducing action.

Liquidity Management

Introduction:
One of the most important tasks the management of any bank or other financial services provider faces in ensuring adequate liquidity at all times, no matter what emergencies may suddenly appear. A financial institution is considered to be “liquid” if it has ready access to immediately spend able funds at reasonable cost at precisely the time those funds are needed. This suggests that a liquid bank or other financial firm either has the right amount of immediately spend able funds on hand when they are required or can raise liquid funds in a timely fashion by borrowing or by selling assets.

The cash shortages that banks and other financial service providers in trouble often experience make clear that liquidity needs cannot be ignored. A bank or thrift institution can be closed if it cannot raise sufficient liquidity even though, technically, it may still be solvent. The competence of liquidity managers is an important barometer of management’s overall effectiveness in achieving any financial institution’s goals.

The demand supply and liquidity:

A bank or other financial institution’s need for liquidity immediately spendable funds can be viewed within a demand – supply framework. Demands for spendable funds come form two sources:
Ø Customers withdrawing money form their deposits
Ø Credit requests form customers the institution wishes to keep, either in the form of new loan requests or drawings upon existing credit lines.

Sources of demand and supply for liquidity for a depository institution

Supplies of liquid funds come form:
Incoming customer deposits
Revenues form the sale of nondeposit services
Customer loan repayments
Sales of assets
Borrowings form the money market

Demands for liquidity typically arise form:
Customer deposit withdrawals
Credit requests form quality loan customers
Repayment of nondeposit borrowings
Payment of stockholder cash dividends

Strategies for liquidity managers:

Experienced liquidity managers have developed several broad strategies for dealing with liquidity problems:

1)Asset liquidity management strategies:
This strategy calls for storing liquidity in the form of holdings of liquid assets, predominantly in cash and marketable securities. This liquidity management strategy is often called asset conversion because liquids funds are raised by converting noncash asset into cash. This strategy is preferred by small banks.

Liquid asset has got three strategies:
o It must have a ready resale market
o It must have a stable price
o It must be reversible

2)borrowed liquidity (liability) management strategies :
Borrowing enough immediately spendable funds to cover all anticipated demands for liquidity.
Some advantage
Ø A bank or other financial firm can choose to borrow only when it actually needs fund. Like as just in time approach.
Ø The volume and composition of asset portfolio in unchanged
Ø Controls lever the interest rate offered to borrow funds.

3)balanced liquidity management strategies :
Some of the expected demands for liquidity are stored in assets while other anticipated liquidity needs are covered by borrowings.

Conclusion:

Liquidity needs & liquidity decision must be analyzed on a continuing basis to avoid both excess & deficit liquidity positions. Excess liquidity that is not reinvested the same day it occurs results in lost income, while liquidity defects must be dealt with quickly to avoid dire emergencies where the hurried borrowing of funds on sale of assets result’s in excessive losses for the bank or other financial firm involved. Indeed lack of adequate liquidity can be one of the first signs that a bank or financial institution is in real trouble. A trouble bank or thrift that is losing deposits wills likely is forced to dispose of some of its safer, more liquid assets.

Russian firm keen to enter Bangladesh mobile market

Md Hasan
AFK Sistema, the owning company of Russia's largest mobile phone operator OAO Mobile TeleSystems, has said it is in talks to buy a cellphone firm in Bangladesh. "We are interested in the Bangladeshi market, especially in its mobile phone sector. The mode of entry is under discussion as well. We will continue to work for entering Bangladesh," said Kirill Semenov, head of international press office of AFK Sistema."There is a negotiating process going on and Sistema has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bangladesh's authorities," he said. However, the Moscow-based Sistema did not mention which company it is interested in. But said Sistema is interested to buy one operator, either a GSM or a CDMA operator.Semenov said Sistema is yet to take any decision whether it would buy a CDMA (code division multiple access) or GSM (global system for mobile communications) operator. "It's too early to give any timeframe also," he said.Sistema's mobile unit OAO Mobile TeleSystems also operates in Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Together with its subsidiaries, the company serves over 83.88 million subscribers.Earlier in April at a meeting with the telecom regulator of the country, UAE-based telecom operator Etisalat expressed interest to buy stakes in the state-run mobile operator TeleTalk. Industry insiders predict two names on the selling list -- the poor performing TeleTalk and the country's oldest and sole CDMA operator Citycell -- as these two are struggling for a significant market share. According to Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC), CityCell and TeleTalk have 1.70 million and 1.07 million subscribers respectively as of June 2008.When contacted, Iqbal Mahmud, chairman of TeleTalk's board, admitted that the Russian company met TeleTalk officials recently and showed interest to invest in Bangladesh's mobile phone sector."There is decision by the company's board to sell at least 25 percent share in TeleTalk," he said adding, "If the government approves the decision, we will go for further steps." Mahmud said he has also asked the Russian company to send its proposal about how it would like to invest in Bangladesh's telecom sector. TeleTalk needs a strategic partner to sustain in the highly competitive market, he said."Some officials of Sistema visited BTRC last month," said BTRC Chairman Maj Gen (retd ) Manzurul Islam. Echoing the TeleTalk chairman, he said BTRC also asked them to come with clear investment proposal. However, CityCell officials refused to comment on the sale issue. Sistema said it has signed telecommunication agreements with the governments of China and Bangladesh to execute its investment plan. Bangladesh is a six-operator mobile market. Norway's Telenor majority Grameenphone is the marker leader with having 20.30 million subscriber followed by Egypt based Banglalink's 9.46 million and Telekom Malaysia's Aktel 7.85 million as of the end of June 2008. The total number of mobile phone subscribers reached 43.7 million by the end of June, according to telecom regulator.Regarding the mobile phone market size in Bangladesh, Anders Jensen, chief executive officer of Grameenphone, said, "Six or seven players are far too many, this is a four to five, maybe even three operators' market."hasan@thedailystar.net

Advertising and promotional strategy of Keya cosmetics Limited

Introduction

Nearly everyone in the modern world is influenced to some degree by advertising and other forms of promotion. Organizations in both the private and public sectors have learned that the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with their target audience is critical to their success. Advertising and other types of promotional messages are used to sell products and services as well as to promote causes, market political candidates, and deal with societal problems such as alcohol a drug abuse. Consumers are finding it increasingly difficult to avoid the efforts of marketers, who are constantly searching for new ways to communicate with them.
Most of the people involved in advertising and promotion will also tell you that there is no more dynamic and fascinating field to either practice or study. However, they will also tell you that the field is undergoing dramatic change that is changing advertising and promotion forever. The changes are coming from all side clients demanding better results from their advertising and promotional dollars; lean but highly creative smaller ad agencies; sales promotion and direct marketing firm, as well as interactive agencies, which want a larger share of the billions of dollars companies, spend each year promoting their products and services; consumers who no longer respond to traditional forms of advertising; and new technologies that may reinvent the very process of advertising. Bangladesh economy & Keya operational activities

During the FY 2006 the Bangladesh economy achieved a higher growth underpinned mainly by a strong post flood recovery in agriculture sector and notable expansion in manufacturing activities, despite facing excessive price hike of oil and some other importable in the international market. Economic growth was also aided by strong growth in export and remittance from non resident Bangladeshis. Real GDP growth FY 2006 was 607 percent, moderately higher than 6 percent of the FY 2005. Export earnings recorded a significantly higher growth of 21.6 percent. Remittance from non-resident Bangladeshis increasing substantially by 24.8 percent. Industrial sector contributed about 28 percent of total GDP of Bangladesh. Our foreign exchange reserve crossed us$ 4 billion mark for the first time at the beginning of the year 2007mainly due to significant inflow of remittance and export growth. Export continued its roaring march as usually despite there was an ongoing political crisis since the very beginning of the year. Total export crossed US$ 11 billion in 2006 against all odds at home abroad.

Moreover, most of the year has observed continuous price hike of essential items, especially fresh food items seriously affecting life and facing unavoidable hazard due to continuous increasing living standard against earnings of the common people. This had obviously negative impact on disposable income of general masses, whose expenditures on toiletries would decline as a resultant impact. This resulted negative impact on the sales volume of the company.

Conclusion

Keya cosmetics limited on of the leading cosmetics company in Bangladesh. Their advertising and promotional activities are more than any other company, past two year Keya is the leading advertising company in Bangladesh. They already expend 77354779 taka in recent two year for their advertising purpose. Keya promotional strategy is different from other company, give Keya shop two cover take on shop free is the firs popular promotional offer by Keya cosmetics ltd. Keya cosmetics also sponsor of the most popular magazine program in Bangladesh.
At last we can say that advertising and promotional strategy is the main part of modern marketing. Sales are very much depending on advertising and promotional offer of by company. Keya cosmetics also very much depend on their advertising and promotional activities and our analysis also show this types of data so Keya cosmetics sales very much depend on their advertising and promotional activities.

case studies: Vicks Pizza Corporation (Service Marketing)

Question No 1

1. Flowchart Vicks service delivery system from receipt of the order to delivery of the pizza to the customer. Why are pizza sometimes delivered late?

Vicks pizza service delivery system is mainly speed base delivery system, company main slogan it’s quick at Vick’s pizza; so Vicks Pizza Company’s promise to home delivery a pizza within 30 minutes of a phone order or cut $3 off the price of pizza to fail to delivery within 30 minutes. Vicks pizza have thousands of outlets to delivery pizza to there customer. When a customer give order by phone to Vicks pizza control office, control office transfer this order to nearby customer outlet and sales man delivery pizza within 30 minutes to customer. If sales man fail to delivery pizza to there customer within 30 minutes company rules to cut $3 of the price. Here is the flowchart of Vicks pizza delivery system.

Take order by phone

Transfer order to outlets

Outlet transfer order to sales people

Salesman delivery product within 30 minutes

Cut $3 off the price fail to delivery within 30 minutes.

Flowchart of Vicks service delivery

There are many cases are involve to Vicks pizza delivery late problem mainly delivery system and employee motivation are main cases. We studies this case very carefully and find out some point those are mainly involve this problem like
Accidents
Untrained sales employee
Careless driving

Accidents
The company’s own records indicated that during the previous year, accidents involving Vick’s drivers had cost 20 lives, 18 of them during pizza runs. But it had declined to
specify how many of the victims were employee. So accidents must be one of the cases to delivery late.
Untrained sales employee
Untrained sales employee makes very much problems in any organization. Vicks anther problem is they are most of the sales employee are not trained properly and there many employee age level under 18 so this is anther factor are involve to late delivery.
Careless driving
Careless driving means accident and accident means lose time, lose life or got injure so that anther factor are involve in delivery late.

So it is very much clear that Vicks pizza delivery system and employee are very much involve for delivery late and also make accidents. Employee working system and company delivery system like 30 minutes delivery is also very much involve to delivery late.

2. How important is the thirty minute guarantee?

Thirty minute guarantee are very much importance for Vicks pizza. We know that speed is a key factor of any company sales strategy so Vicks pizza sales strategy main part is 30 minutes guarantee. The speed at hand had always been a key strategic thrust for Vick’s pizza, which used the slogan it’s quick at Vick’s pizza; The Company’s Restaurants Not only prepared pizza rapidly but also delivered it quickly. The company’s promise to home delivery a pizza within 30minutes of a phone order or to cut$3 off the price had boosted it from a single pizzeria 20 year.
Harry Capriccio, the senior vice president of marketing he declared. "The 30 minutes guarantee is very, very important to our customers sales could be head hit if we drop it".
Customer want they are product as soon as possible to they are hand and Vicks always try to delivery they are product to they are customer as soon as possible and that why they are sales outlet growing day by day. Vicks pizza have growing number of critics were saying that, in Vicks case, at least, speed was a killer but Vicks executive argued that the system did not promote fast or reckless driving "the speed takes place in the store not on road" but it is true customer like Vicks pizza because Vicks give there customer thirty minute delivery guarantee.

So we can say that thirty minutes guarantee is very very important and helpful for Vick pizza corporation and Customer like Vicks pizza because there 30 minutes guarantee but vicks pizza also have some unnecessary thing those are make accidents but it not necessary for vicks delivery system. But vicks also involve those kind of thing like hire school boy to be there sales boy, it kill vicks pizza reputation and make negative image to they are customer

3. How serious is the present situation for Vicks Pizza Corporation? How well has it handled the situation so far?

Present situation for Vicks Pizza Corporation is not very helpful because they are safety problem.
Company previous year made so many accidents by they are drivers and accidents kill not only people, it also kill company image and reputation to customer. The company’s own record indicated that during the previous year, accidents involving Vicks drivers had cast 20 lives, 18 of them during pizza runs, So company present situation not very good for they are customer.
Vicks pizza tries to handle the situation but they are not handled this situation very well. Vicks Pizza Corporation takes some action to build positive public image and a reputation as a generous donor to local community activities. Vicks main problem is there service delivery system but Vicks Pizza Corporation wasn’t taken any action against it and they also not pay necessary amount for accident victim. Many people believes that Vicks guarantee to deliver each pizza within 30 minutes or knock $ 3 off the price was just a license to speed and speed kills lives but vicks not change any thing to related there service system.
So here we can say that vicks pizza corporation present situation not very well and vicks not handled it well so far but they take some action but it was not enough to rebuild there positive public image.

4. If you are a senior manager of Vicks Pizza Corporation what do you think the company should do now? Why?

If am a senior manager of vicks Pizza Corporation and vicks Pizza Corporation give me power to take any necessary action, first I want to make some changes. We already know that vicks pizza already marked they are reputation in very badly so at first I want to rebuild vicks reputation.
So if any companies want to rebuild there reputation they are first work to remove any bad system or bad strategy so I want to change vicks delivery and company strategy. They are 30 minutes delivery guarantee is all right because it is a key strategy of vicks pizza and also customer love it but sometime it using wrongly by company employees like pizza deliver have enough time to delivery to customer but they try to be more advance and this cases driver made so many accidents, so first I would try to stop this quick driving. Vicks Pizza Corporation already makes so many critic and they are can be make big damage to company reputation, so first stop they are critics by do some social activates and also help those all accidents victim. Training can be key tool to stop accidents because we know that Vicks most of the employee are not very much trained for pizza delivery so we can trained all new and exiting employee to how they drive in rode when the delivery pizza. I think it can be very much impact on accidents minimization and also help Vicks to win good image to customer mind.
At the end of this case we can say that Vicks pizza corporation employee not enough trained and they wrong used they are service delivery system, most of the time they are try to be more advance that way they made so many accident and Vicks pizza corporation lose they are reputation and image. So some necessary action can be help Vicks pizza corporation to develop they are image and also our discussion and advice can help them to make correct decision.
